Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh received Leader of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Mongolia working group Geoff Gottlieb, IMF Resident Representative for Mongolia Neil Saker on February 5th, 2018.
Prime minister thanked the IMF for accepting proposals to revise changes to personal income tax and the retirement age, returning them to their previous states. He said that positive changes in the economy including return of fiscal stability, increase of FDI and revenue have been a direct result of the efforts of the IMF and Government of Mongolia. Prime minister expressed that the government is committed to change a volatile economic structure of relying on sole sector of extractive industry and diversify economy in other sectors including agriculture, renewable energy, tourism and development of infrastructure.
The IMF’s staff team leader Geoff Gottlieb said that the government has achieved targeted tasks through its commitment. The IMF will inform about this positive results to other donor organizations and development partners. He highlighted that the importance of maintaining stability in order to keep successful implementation of the program. Both sides agreed to reach consensus on pressing issues through the dialogue in the future.
